McMahons of Oriel Foundation

Purpose & Budget

Purpose statement:

Proposal: To form a not for profit family foundation that will perform the following functions:

-          to inform McMahons descended from the Lough Leck MacMahons of their ancient heritage via the internet and published literature

-          to develop and disseminate information to members of the Clan in an effort to reunite the family which has scattered across the globe: this could take the form of a clan journal or other means of communication

-          to replace the coronation stone of the MacMahon Kings and establish a permanent historical site at Mullach Leachta that recalls in perpetuity the role of the McMahon Clan in the history of Oriel and Ireland

-    to develop a map of Airghialla which illustrates sites of historical importance to the MacMahon Overlordship and to develop the capacity in Ireland for us to visit these sites.

We are just now in the process of developing a precise purpose statement.  We have requested and received the paperwork from the IRS to establish a non-profit foundation.  This page will be updated as we proceed.

* a person in County Monaghan to take the lead in researching church records for development of an extended family tree for the entire clan from the dates we have (~ 1640) until government records become available, circa 1870.

* a person in the US to take the lead in organizing the family tree portion of this website.

* an attorney in the US to draw up our Foundation paperwork

* an attorney in Ireland to draw up our Irish Foundation paperwork

* a graduate student in Ireland to track down documents stored in various libraries in Ireland that we cannot obtain from here

* a graduate student in Ireland to do a doctoral thesis on the Mac Mahon Overlordship of Airghialla.

We will also have to establish a means of managing the project and raising funds in Ireland itself.  We need local leadership in County Monaghan and a non-profit organization there as well.
